This track was an outtake from a recording project with Casey Neill and Hanz Araki produced by the late master Scottish fiddler Johnny Cunningham. Some of the tracks on the project were later included on Casey's release Brooklyn Bridge.

Mile Marker 23

Yesterday I had a flash
Of your bare feet on the dash
Falling leaves of gold
A.M, radio
Showing me the way
to where your brother lay

There was no grave, no stone,
No tree for shade
No shining casket of fine oak made
Just one turn he did not see
Raymond comes alive when we drive
Mile marker 23

You both came here in you childhood days
Before the wrecker haul them all away
Now you’re here to wonder why
To scream, to say goodbye
To curse any god who
Would take him from you

The blacktop told a story that day
Two rubber scars like long black ribbons lay
Lying in a circle on the ground
A photograph of Ray, and a photograph
Of every other boy in that town
A mother’s warning sign
To the wreckless and the blind

He’s off to meet eternity
Left poor Rosalie the skeleton key
Hold on Rose, Hold on Rose, Hold on
